Lydia Bishop, LCSW

Adult Life Transitions/Relationship Therapist

Helping adults heal from life transitions, relationships, trauma, understanding neurodiversity, and healing through relationship and authentic connection.

About Lydia

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Canton, Georgia. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Kennesaw State University and began my career working for Cherokee County as an adult probation officer. During that time, I quickly recognized that many individuals within the judicial system were in need of greater access to resources and therapeutic support. This realization led me back to Kennesaw State University, where I earned my Master of Arts in Social Work.

Following my graduate program, I have worked with adolescents and adults across a variety of settings, including Drug and Alcohol Treatment Courts, Juvenile Detention Centers, private practice, and in-home community counseling.

I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful and lasting change. My priority is to create a space where clients feel safe, supported, and genuinely understood, regardless of the challenges they are facing. I work with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, family issues, divorce or separation, addiction, parenting challenges, relationship concerns, and self-esteem.

I am also experienced in working with polyamorous couples, ethically non-monogamous (ENM) relationships, and individuals exploring alternative relationship structures. I strive to provide an affirming, nonjudgmental space where clients can openly explore their identities, relationship dynamics, and personal values.

My approach is deeply relational, grounded in authenticity and genuine connection. I integrate a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Family Systems, Person-Centered Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Brainspotting. Brainspotting is a powerful, brain-body based approach that helps identify, process, and release deep neurophysiological sources of trauma, emotional pain, and anxiety.

I am passionate about supporting clients in their journey toward growth, healing, and self-discovery, and I am committed to meeting each person where they are with compassion and respect.

What Sessions Are Like

Sessions with me are collaborative, conversational, and tailored to you. You can expect a space where you are encouraged to be honest, explore what is happening beneath the surface, and work at a pace that feels manageable. Depending on your goals, sessions may include exploring relationship and family patterns, developing practical coping strategies, practicing mindfulness, challenging unhelpful thought patterns, or using Brainspotting to process deeper emotional experiences.

My Treatment Approach

My treatment approach integrates mind, body, relationships, and lived experiences. I work collaboratively with clients to better understand the patterns, experiences, and challenges impacting their emotional well-being. Depending on the client's needs, I incorporate cognitive, relational, mindfulness-based, solution-focused, and brain-body approaches to support healing, growth, and lasting change.

Treatment Philosophy

I believe healing happens through connection, safety, authenticity, and collaboration. Therapy should be a space where clients can show up as their whole selves without fear of judgment. I believe each person's experiences are unique, and treatment should honor their individual needs, values, relationships, and goals. My goal is to help clients develop greater understanding of themselves while building the skills and insight needed to create meaningful and lasting change.

Why Clients Choose to Work With Me

Clients may choose to work with me because I offer a genuine, compassionate, and nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship. My experience working with individuals across a variety of settings allows me to meet clients with understanding and flexibility. I also provide an affirming space for clients in polyamorous, ENM, and alternative relationship structures, where they can openly explore relationship dynamics and personal challenges without judgment.

My Background

My education began with a Bachelors of Sociology which gave me a rich understanding of the social and cultural impact on mental health. I am passionate about sociopolitical issues and how systemic biases can affect all people. I am passionate about feminism, anti-colonialism, dismantling racial and ethnic biases, LGBTQ+ issues, and understanding the profound impact neurodivergence can have on social acceptance from others. With this foundation, I began my studies towards a Masters of Social Work, where I learned about therapeutic approaches on a micro and macro level, deepening my understanding of the impacts of trauma, neurodivergence, various identity types, and demographics. Post-graduation I completed several specific and rigorous trainings to hone my knowledge and skills in trauma and neurodivergence. Additionally, I am passionate about holistic wellness which began with my former career as a Licensed Massage Therapist.
